Steak and eggs
Our dinner from day 1 of living off the Practical Paleo cook book. We had some modifications such as adding a fried egg on top of the garlic steak and onions. We also paired the steak with butternut squash with cinnamon and coconut butter. I added a few diced dates for a little sugar rush.
The steak and squash were a big hit with the kids. Squash is a great side for kids or nearly any age and thankfully even at 15 months my youngest can eat steak. This is a bonus for us as our meal plan have us eating this as leftovers tomorrow.
Day 1 down.
Going Practical Paleo
Each week my wife and I create a week long meal plan and try to knock out the bulk of our shopping on Sunday. Eating paleo can be time consuming and when life happens it becomes even more difficult to plan, shop, and prepare everything from scratch.
To push ourselves and reduce some of the mental workload of eating Paleo we are trying, for one week, to live purely from the Pratical Paleo book. It is a great resource for recipes and meal plans.
Yesterday was our first day. We have a fully stocked fridge and our first meals were a huge success with the kids. I can’t wait to see how the rest of the week goes.
Bacon popcorn NOT paleo but amazing. Watch this vine (my first post) and try making it yourself.
Homemade cereal with banana and blueberries
I will have dig out the links later but my wife made this amazing mix/cereal with sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and pecans. I added this with a sliced banana, blueberries, and whole milk.
All of this made for a perfect snack. I normally prefer a hot breakfast in the morning but it was also filling enough to be a substitute if in a rush.
Avocado veggie dip
We are experimenting with mayo and veggie dips. It is not too bad on a burger either.
More modifications to come however this version was:
- 1 cup paleo mayo
- 2 avocados
- 1 jalapeño
- 5 garlic cloves
- 3 tablespoons of onion powder
- 2 tablespoons of chives
Next time we will add more heat and use fresh onions. Look for updates some time next week.
